[TN-Bird] E. Shelby County following Titan

After enjoying the 4 Fox Sparrows under my feeders yesterday morning, I
ventured out in the local area to see if there were any Rusty Blackbirds. No
luck there, but I also drove through a failed subdivision start very near my
house in the Brunswick/Lakeland area. There I found 250+ Lapland Longspurs, 71
Horned Larks, 37 Savannah Sparrows, and huge flocks of majority Red-wings and
Starlings.

An American Tree Sparrow was observed feeding on the snow covered ground near a
few Savannah Sparrows when we drove back over there at 5 p.m. We had a long
look at that bird about 15 feet outside our car. The bird never flushed even
when we cranked the engine and drove away.

On a typical winter day, this area might have half a dozen Savannahs, a few
blackbirds, and maybe a Meadowlark or three. Yesterday's numbers I would look
forward to seeing on a trip through ag land on the Arkansas side of the river,
down in the north Mississippi delta, or maybe a few at AgriCenter, but totally
unexpected way over here. This is new habitat that was formerly wooded before
it was cleared for development in the early 2000's prior to the housing crash.
Too bad they're starting to build again.
