Many thanks to all who responded to my request for ID help for the tree-perching duck in my back yard. Based purely on numbers, I'm declaring it a wood duck. So there. There's a pretty big free-flowing creek that winds around the back of this property and down the north side; plenty of hardwood trees for ducks and other winged critters. I spotted a great blue heron in the top of one of the tallest trees a month or so ago. He hung out for the day and then was off to parts unknown. There's a really huge heron rookery (is that the right word?) very near here. Happy birding, y'all!
