HAPPY NEW YEAR, FELLOW BIRDERS & FRIENDS,

Here in the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville, Davidson County, TN, my
first bird of the early dawn was a mourning dove perched on a utility line in
my
back yard. Peace dove??? Hopefully.

The next few, in order of appearance, were white-throated sparrow, house
sparrow, cardinal, dark-eyed junco, starling, robin, mockingbird, rock pigeon
and
blue jay. Just the usual species have come to avail themselves of Dee's
Smorgabird where they are hungrily feeding in this 22 degree weather. I've
poured
a pan of hot water over the frozen water in their bird bath, so they are able
to quinch their thirst as well. It is fun to watch them peck at the peanut
butter which froze in a minute, but several species in the crowd of birds
really
love it. Two mockingbirds were just "fighting" over the PB. Squirrels are
beginning to appear, so I expect to be busy today resupplying the food for all
of them.

My first chickadee of the year just appeared. They are late risers today, so
maybe they partied last night.

Let's all hope for a wonderful year ahead, bird-wise and otherwise.
Blessings to you all.

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
