Wallace:

On behalf of KOS, I thank you for the notification regarding the KOS =
spring
meeting and speaker Daniel Moss. All members of TOS and subscribers to
TNBIRD are most cordially welcome to attend Friday night only or the =
entire
weekend. There is a 5 dollar registration fee per person.

The reason this follow-up is that the Park Lodge had only 1 room =
available
as of Monday for Friday evening and none for Saturday. They do have
cottages at a substantially higher rate. They are nice cottages and are
probably worth the price, especially for friends to share. The park =
does
have an excellent campground and it is surrounded by the Pennyrile State
Forest where "primitive" camping is allowed. In this case, that means =
no
facilities.

The closest motel accommodations known to me are at the Spring Inn in =
Dawson
Springs. This is an older facility and is probably suitable for the =
budget
conscious birder. It is above 5 miles north of the park. Otherwise, =
there
is a Best Western/Pennyrile Inn at Morton Gap (perhaps 15 miles NE of =
the
park), a Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn in Madisonville, (about 25 =
miles
NE of the park) and motels in Hopkinsville. Most motels in Hopkinsville =
are
on the south side of town making the commute about 30 miles.

Pennyrile Forest State park is located just south of Dawson Springs just =
off
of KY HWY 109. This is about 25 miles NW of Hopkinsville.

For the record, the Saturday evening program is being presented by Dr. =
Doug
Stotz, Ornithologist of the field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
Doug will be speaking on the dynamics that make the Chicago lakefront =
such
an outstanding migrant corridor and conservation steps needed to =
preserve
that corridor.

We would love to have as many Tennessee friends as possible so please =
feel
free to come and here 2 fine birders. We will all be glad to help you =
add
to your Kentucky lists if possible.

If anyone needs directions to the park, please feel free to contact me.
Below, is a link to the park web site.

Thanks again to Wallace for this very kind posting.

Daniel Moss, avian biologist for the Fort Campbell Military Reservation, =
is
expected to be the Friday evening speaker for The Spring 2006 Meeting of =
the
Kentucky Ornithological Society which will be held at Pennyrile Forest =
State
Resort Park from 28 - 30 April 2006. For reservations, call =
1-800-535-1711.
There is also a campground in the park. Moss, is the tentative speaker =
for
Friday evening. His program will include the latest information on the
status of Bachman's Sparrow at Fort Campbell, as well as his survey work
with Henslow's Sparrows and other species. A silent auction will be held =
at
the spring KOS meeting as well. Bird books, bird items, and other
nature-related items that might sell at a silent auction of birders are
being sought. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the general fund =
for
the specific purpose of improving KOS meeting quality by funding =
regionally-
and nationally-recognized experts in ornithology or birding as primary
speakers for our Saturday evening programs.=20

This message is copied from the Kentucky Ornithological Society website =
and

Let's go birding......
