White and Bledsoe County July 4, 2014 Lola and I spent part of the 4th in the cool air birding around Crossville, TN. Early in the morning we had to wear long sleeves - crazy for July. We first checked out the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness WMA. The grass had grown up but we had some nice birds with two Henslow’s Sparrows, several Yellow-breasted Chats, Indigo Buntings, Field Sparrows, Eastern Kingbirds, and heard several Northern Bobwhites. We also went down the mountain to the Sequatchie Valley and drove around looking for Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. We only found a male and female on Ninemile Cross Road northeast of Pikeville. They were hanging out over the hill just east of the traditional transformer nest. Lovely day!
