The older folks here on the hill used to say someone was "tecched in the head" when they did something crazy and those passing by our deck must have said the same about us this morning. It was cold, damp, and a Northwest wind made the misty fog feel like cold needles on the face. But the birds came on that front - we had 3 first-of-the-fall Palm, Black & White, Pine, Magnolia, Tennessee and Yellow-rumped Warblers; Veery and Swainson's Thush; House (first-of-the-year), Winter (first time ever in our yard) and Carolina Wrens; White-eyed Vireo, Scarlet Tanagers, first-of-the-fall Brown-headed Cowbirds, Savannah Sparrow and our usual yard attendees. This week has also brought Field Sparrow, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and another first-ever-in-the-yard Belted Kingfisher that sat briefly on the electric line over our water pool. So who cares if folks think we are tecched! We've had 29 species of warblers in the yard this year and that would make anyone a bit crazy.
