I was surprised to see a Coopers hawk near the Green Hills Cinema this afternoon. There is a small island of landscaping separating the main mall parking lot from the strip of businesses near the cinema. There are several "weeping" trees ((mulberry?), probably not even 8 ft tall. I saw the hawk flying to the ground from the tree. It didn't look like it had supper & I couldn't decide what it was doing. It flew back up in the branches almost immediately. It did this a couple times. I chuckled as a number of people walked right by- I imagined how shocked they would have been had the hawk flown out in front of them. They were literally less than 3 feet from the bird, right at the same level. Never could figure out what it was doing but had several more opportunities to watch it. Nice urban wildlife.
