Good news on this issue: the Corps (USACE) has decided to keep Cook
Recreation Area public and keep it under their management. They did not
select any of the three commercial proposals which they received. This is
certainly a win for area birders, as well a win for anyone who would use
public greenspace in the Nashville area. Hopefully we can find ways in the
future to encourage and support the Corps of Engineers in managing, for the
public good, the great resources of public water and land under their care.
Those interested can keep engaged with this by joining the Cook Rec. Area
Friends group noted above. For now we can breathe a little easier when
birding our favorite hot spots on Priest Lake.
