I had an appointment this morning in midtown, so I stopped at Centennial
Park in Nashville for a while, hoping to add some warblers to my hotspot
list. I was surprised to find that the Ross's Goose which showed up last
fall is still present! It has been a couple of weeks since I have seen it
reported on eBird.
The goose was first reported back on Nov 30, 2021 by Cheryl Hiers, now more
than 5 full months ago. It has lost much of the juvenile dusky feathers it
was showing then, especially on the face and head, but is still showing
some in the flight secondaries. The bird is hanging out with a "bad crowd"
of Canada Geese (the CANG gang), and they were all being dispersed by the
park's "Goose Control" person. Who would have figured that Nashville, TN
would need Ross's Goose control measures? ;-) Hopefully those measures will
aggravate it enough to prompt it to head north before it gets too fat to
fly on all the white bread and snacks from visiting guests.
