May 4, 2006 Harpeth River State Park, Narrows of the Harpeth section
Cheatham Co. TN

Day two of TN State Parks birding training workshop for State Parks rangers
was conducted at sites along the Harpeth River, highlights include:

CONNECTICUT WARBLER -1- HEARD ONLY -no one volunteering to wade the weeds
and brambles to flush it out. The habitat was suitable, thick cover of second
growth saplings with relatively open mid-story and under-story of grass and
weed tangles. Song was the less twisting type like example #4 on Birding By
Ear
Warblers set.
I will try again with tape play-back if anyone would like to join me at 8AM
Friday, Narrows of the Harpeth S.P. (The weather may not be the best Friday
morning)
At any rate the Nashville area this weekend will be a prime place to look
for these elusive ones. (see Spring TOS meeting field trip offerings listed
elsewhere)

Cerulean Warbler - 2
Am. Redstat
N. Parula
Yellow Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Blue-winged Warbler
Chat
Northern Waterthrush
Louisiana Waterthrush - eating large dragonfly below tunnel spillway
Least Flycatcher -1

Total species for two days was 106 and warblers (including the Connecticut)
totaled 23.
