This afternoon at the Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County I found a male Red-Breasted Merganser in the vicinity of the sandbars where the gulls like to sit. He was moving around but got pretty close for a while... just past the near sandbar. Also had quite a few Horned Grebes scattered around. I counted 11. Saw my FOS Common Grackles there; I heard one at the house earlier in the day. I guess they're moving back. The Pine Warblers were singing and I managed to get a decent look at one. Lots of birds feeding on the lawn and bathing in the puddles.... mostly Robins but a few Red-Winged Blackbirds and Starlings. 14 Great Blue Herons were standing on or near nests in the small heronry across Northshore from the Cove.
