I went back to the substation about 6:45 this morning in Smyrna to see what the roost of Eurasian Collared Doves was like. I was amazed to have a maximum count of 169 collared doves!! There were a couple Mourning Doves in there too. A Kestrel flew through a couple times and got them all stirred up and about 7:10 this morning they were pretty well dispersed and flying away in all directions, presumably to forage for the day. By 8 am there were only a couple birds around. There is a scrubby area next to the substation, where I birded/shot photos of other birds for an hour or so, otherwise I wouldn't have been at the substation watching collared doves all morning.
