[TN-Bird] Chattanooga TOS field trip to Talladega and Springville, Alabama

For the second time in two weeks, CTOS ventured into north Alabama, visiting
Talladega National Forest and Springville, Alabama.  The group included
Clyde Blum, leader; Tommie Rogers; Jeff Schaarschmidt; David, Scott, and
John Spicer; and Gary and Pixie Lanham.

 

The first stop was at the Pinhoti Trail (33°47'23.8"N 85°33'23.0"W) near the
entrance road to the Lake Coleman campgrounds.  Highlights at this location
were 2 Red-cockaded Woodpeckers seen 50 yards directly north of the entrance
road to Lake Coleman and at least 4 (possibly as many as 8) red crossbill
flyovers (heard only) within 1000 yards of the same location.  The full list

The second site was at the intersection of Zuber Road and Deer Haven Roads
(33°45'35.4"N 86°34'01.1"W) between Clay and Springville, Alabama, just
northeast of Birmingham. The highlight at this location was a stake-out
Western Tanager seen in the front yard of the log house at 8960 Zuber Road
(last house at north end of road).  The full list at this location including
