[TN-Bird] Chattanooga RBA #23

This is Update Number #23 made on October 28, 2003.

Some interesting birds were observed at the Cravens House (Hamilton co.,TN)
on October 27 (Kevin Calhoon) including:
1 Blue-headed Vireo
1 Black-throated Green Warbler
3 Indigo Buntings
1 Northern Harrier (first of fall Cravens)
1 Dark-eyed Junco (first of fall at Cravens)
2 Winter Wren

Birds seen at the Brainerd Levee on October 27 included (Kevin Calhoon):
1 AMERICAN BITTERN
1 Greater Yellowlegs
3 Rusty Blackbirds (first of fall)
1 Marsh Wren
36 Wilsons Snipe

Here are the highlights of the TOS fieldtrip to Standifer Gap Marsh
(Hamilton co., TN) on October 26 (Kevin Calhoon):
8 species of sparrows:
1 Lincoln's
2 Vesper
7 im White-crowned
Field
Savannah
Song
Swamp
White-throated
1 KING RAIL (heard only)
3 Virginia Rail
1 Common Yellowthroat
1 Winter Wren
6 Palm Warblers

The first report of Northern Harrier came from Sequatchie county on October
22 and another was seen on October 24 (Bonnie Johnson)

The two Peregrine Falcons were observed on the railroad bridge below
Chickamauga Dam on October 20 and 26 (Harold Sharp)

Bald Eagles have been seen in our area over the last couple of weeks. One
was seen over the old Soddy High on hwy 27 on October 19 (Deb Lovin) and
another was seen on the 19th along the Tennessee River near the Dupont water
intake (Harold Sharp.  The two Peregrines were seen chasing one below
Chickamauga Dam on October 20! (Harold Sharp).

The last Ruby Hummingbird report was from the Apison area on October 20.

The first report of Dark-eyed Junco came from Hamilton Co. on October 20
(Tanya Iles).

The next general meeting of the Chattanooga TOS will be on November 13
7:00 PM at the Accension Luthern Church, 720 South Germantown Rd.
