You have reached Kevin Calhoon with the Chattanooga RBA, sponsored by the Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. This is Update Number #1 made on January 11, 2003. The Nickajack CBC was held on December 28 and finished with 98 species. The highlights included: WESTERN GREBE was seen again above Nickajack Dam. (The bird was first found on December 21st and this was the last report I have of it) PRAIRIE WARBLER Snow Goose Orange-crowned warbler Lincoln's Sparrow Green-winged Teal Count records highs for Greater Scaup, Chipping Sparrow, and American Woodcock. Hiwassee CBC was held on January 1. The numbers have not been complety counted yet, but so far 98 species were recorded. Highlights included: 2 Merlin 2 Snow Geese The first Eurasion-Collared Dove ever recorded on the count. Lincoln's Sparrow Vesper Sparrow 11,000 plus Sandhill Cranes Whooping Crane #6 was present on count day. She left to migrate to Florida on January 3. A Black-crowned Night Heron was seen near Gillispie Bend on the way to the Hiwassee CBC.(David Spicer) (it was just north of the count circle) A Palm Warblers and American Pipits were seen at the Brainerd Levee on December 16. (David Patterson) Five Virginia Rails, a Sora, 3 Sedge Wrens, and a Palm Warbler were at Standifer Gap marsh on January 2.
