All,
Although this isn't the full on excitement that the Chattanooga Area Wood Stork
is bringing, a Cattle Egret was observed at a fenced in local farm pond/cow
pasture in Cannon County. Initially the bird was along the pond, but then flew
into the area where the cows were foraging. Until today, this species was not
on the e-bird Cannon County birdlist.
The farm pond is on Cap Young Road (dead end road). Additionally Cap Young Rd
was hosting at least EIGHT American Kestrels. Whether they are a large
multi-family unit or an assemblage of migrants is unknown to me. They are
perching along the road on fencerows, powerlines, snags- for great
opportunities to witness/photograph multiple plummages of this falcon..
Good Birding,
