[TN-Bird] Re: Carolina wrens nesting in Springfield

For many years we have had two pairs of Carolina Wrens on our property in
Williamson County. In two of those years nests were begun in winter, one in a
garage another in an old grill.  Yesterday, a very warm day at 55+ degrees, at
least one of the pairs was very active foraging in and around our back
porch.  Very fond of them.

Two of our Carolina wrens are using nests as roosts in the cold.  I wonder if
yours had unhatched eggs from the summer, and perhaps are not starting a nest
this early.

While visiting friends today, we noticed a bird fly from under the
hood of their truck which has been parked for some time. When we
looked closer we found a Carolina wren nest in front of the radiator
with two eggs in it. I'm amazed that any songbird would be trying to
nest considering the unusually cold weather in the past few weeks. Is
this unusual? Unfortunately, they have to move the truck so the nest
  won't be successful.
