Warblers have been coming through the yard regularly. In the past week we've
seen Yellow-throated, Yellow-breasted Chat, Hooded, Northern Parula,
Worm-eating, Yellow, Cerulean, American Redstart, Pine, and this morning a
Canada Warbler - our 137th yard bird. This bird flew into a small Bradford
Pear tree at eye level about 20 feet away and sat facing us so we could see the
"necklace" and the prominent eye ring. It apparently was a first year bird
since the necklace was not as dark as we've seen on mature ones.
We've also had both Summer and Scarlet Tanagers and Baltimore Orioles this
week. This morning there was a beautiful Baltimore male in full color and at
least 5 immatures feeding in our wild cherry tree and in the weeds. Wood
Thrushes have finally stopped teasing us with their calls while they remained
hidden and have been feasting on the cherries in open view. An Eastern Kingbird
and a flock of Cedar Waxwings have fed on the cherries every day. Vireos have
been here too - White-eyed, Red-eyed and Yellow-throated have all been present
this week.
