On a KTOS field trip to Cove Lake State Park in Campbell County on 3/14/2004 we noted a Canada goose with an orange neck collar with white lettering. I assumed it was a local breeder, being it was under the feeders at the restaurant in the park. For entertainment value I wrote down the numbers and sent them in to the banding lab via on-line data entry. We received a note from the USGS folks today indicating that the bird had been banded near East Point Onterio, Canada on 7/8/1999. At the time it was banded it was an after hatch year bird. I was surprised. I wonder if any of the other Canada geese in the park that day were migrants as well. We did see a juvenile snow goose associating with two other white geese of questionable heritage that day.
