The 25th Cades Cove CBC was held on 1 January 2024. Twelve birders
participated in 7 parties. It was a cloudy and cold day with temperatures
hovering just above freezing.
The number of species recorded was 63 which is slightly above the average
of 60. Two new species were added to the count - Peregrine Falcon
(photographed in Cades Cove) and Green-winged Teal (found at the Cades Cove
sewage ponds). Besides the two species new to the count, finds of note
included 4 Short-eared Owls in Cades Cove and a flock of 300 Pine Siskins
found at a participant's birdfeeder.
