Tn-birders, Dollyann and I went to Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery in Anderson County (on highway 62, right on the Clinch River, on the east side of Clinton), to check on the Cackling Goose found by Chuck and Lola Estes yesterday. We found it among the Canada Geese on the right side of the second pond on the right as you drive in. Along with them were 2 Ross's Geese, 6 Redhead, and some Bufflehead. There are several small groups of Canada Geese (2-5 individuals) scattered around the hatchery, but the Cackling was hanging out with a group of about 25 Canadas. It is only about 1/2 the size of the nearby Canada Geese, but a bit tough to find if it is bending over feeding, which it was doing a lot while we were there. A final surprise as we drove by the upper pond was a Horned Lark. In all the years I have birded Eagle Bend, this is the first Horned Lark I have had there. Great birding, Ron Hoff and Dollyann Myers Clinton, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
