After yesterday's slightly frustrating outing at Radnor, when I heard
1 MOURNING and 2 CONNECTICUT WARBLERs but saw none, I was ready for
another go Thursday morning.

A bit before 7 am I arrived at Radnor Lake, and it began to
lightly rain. The very overcast skies encouraged few birds to sing.
While I waited to see if yesterday's MOURNING WARBLER was still around, I
found an ORCHARD ORIOLE nest in a tree in front of the Old Visitor's
Center. After a few minutes I headed for yesterday's best CONNECTICUT
WARBLER location, where David Dortch finally got his sighting.

I spent 30 minutes waiting and listening but did not hear or see my
quarry. To keep me company an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE and a WHITE-EYED VIREO
called extensively. Despite no CONNECTICUT, all was not for naught.
There was warbler activity, and I found a female CAPE MAY WARBLER and a
male WILSON'S WARBLER.

Finally, I gave up and walked to Long Bridge, the general area where
a second CONNECTICUT had been heard yesterday. Arriving a bit before
8 am, I was not there more than 5 minutes when I heard a CONNECTICUT
sing close to the trail. Seeing some movement, I trained my binocs on a
bird. Its bold white eye ring knocked my socks off and made all 12 hairs
on the top of my head stand straight up. After giving me an exceptionally
good look, it flew to a tree just above the bench and allowed me to see it
again before working its way deeper into the woods. I finally got my
yearly CONNECTICUT sighting.

I had a total of 9 species of warblers and PHILADELPHIA VIREOs were
still plentiful, I saw 5 birds.

When I left Radnor Lake at 9 am the sky was clearing and the sun
was coming out.
