This refuge is best reached from Highway 412 about 4 miles east of Parsons and west of the bridge over the TN River, and there is a sign on the highway pointing the way.

After watching it rain all day, and not seeing any posts about the Eurasian Wigeon, I decided to take an afternoon trip and see for myself what was there.

Rain was on and off while I was there, dampening the light in addition to the ground, and I can only imagine the flooded field was much bigger today, making the search more difficult.

The flooded area to the left of the road had Mallards, a lone Gadwall, one American Coot, and two Pied-Billed Grebes, while about two dozen Canada Geese were in the field just on the other side.

The flooded field to the right, a bit farther away at maybe 400 feet. Most obvious was a flock of around 30 Ring-Billed Gulls, sometimes near the water and in the field on the other side of the water. A couple dozen Mallards, about 10 American Wigeons, 20 Gadwall, 3 Northern Shovelers, 2 or 3 Redheads, and 1 Pintail were spotted in the water and just on the near side, stretching a good distance to the right as a narrow strip. The road is quite low, so it is necessary to drive a bit down the road to see the entire flooded section without a ridge in the field blocking the view, and grass and cornstalks block the view in parts of the flooded area. A single Northern Harrier patrolled the area, sending the gulls and some of the ducks into the air from time to time. No sign of the Eurasian Wigeon, but with better conditions and a little less water, scanning would be easier.
