This morning I led a Fall birding hike for the Warner Park nature center in
the Burch Reserve here in west Nashville. We had 8 participants for a very
cool, crisp morning which gradually warmed up.
Migrant activity was fairly slow at the start, but we eventually got into
very active mixed flocks, and finished the day with 11 Warbler species, as
well as a couple of Philly Vireos and heard Swainson's thrushes. Highlights
were an Ovenbird, a vocally cooperative Willow Flycatcher, and Nashville
and Tennessee Warblers right next to each other in the same tree.

Warner Park Nature Center fall bird hike. Very nice morning, starting slow

1 Willow Flycatcher -- Small Flycatcher with barely a trace of an eye ring,
moderate primary projection, and bill. Quite pale below and on the throat.
The bird gave "whip" calls several times, which I pointed out to the group
and then played from Sibley app to demonstrate. The bird responded to tape
perfectly, which was really great. It sat on an open perch and allowed us
to talk about the wing projection and the difficulty in Empidonax
identification. Great learning experience. Photographed.
