I check the Watauga River in Carter County for the annual tic on Cedar Waxwings
because there are several adult holly trees along the river and this year they
are really red with holly berries. A scan with binoculars shows about 50-50 red
and green (leaves).

Though I didn't see any waxwings in the holly trees I got a pleasant surprise
when I put the binoculars on what at first appeared to be a large blackbird
flocks and discovered every one of them had crests. By conservative count 210
of the rascals.
