March 29, 2005 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN A quick trip to the pits produced 3 pair of these breeding ready, Black-White and Red beauties. The males' legs were ruby red and their black backs, sleek as a new Cadillac limousine. Killdeer are at scrapes and there were 5 Pectoral Sandpipers, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs and 3 Wilson's Snipe. We are still a month away from any bloom in the pits but the token few are here! All eyes watched as a Sharp-shinned Hawk lazily circled above and drifted north and both vultures were seen in small groups heading north along with long strings of Double-crested Cormorants. No ducks on TVA Lake due to construction. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
