11/19/2010 Britton Ford Henry Co I made a very quick pass thru Britton Ford since I had to be in Paris today anyway. Lots of ducks in the bay just north of the observation platform. A big raft of sleeping ducks, with many divers of the expected species including a few Greater Scaup. Amongst these and sleeping soundly, was a single female-type Black Scoter. I watched/tried to photograph the bird for about 45 minutes, and never saw its head come up. I wasnâ??t planning at all on birding today, and didnâ??t even have my binocs or camera in the car (scope was basically there by accident). After much trouble, I was finally able to get a couple of IDâ??able shots of the Scoter by digiscoping with my HTC Droid Incredible phone. I tried this with my old Pentax, and it was essentially impossible; my new Kowa 883 now makes it just very difficult :â??) Hopefully a new camera I have coming will let me somewhat take up digiscoping again. Also, very distant was a lone sleeping duck, which was most likely a (Surf) Scoter.
