[TN-Bird] Birding at the SAHC Roan Mountain Weekend

This past weekend, the Southern Appalachian Highland Conservancy had its
annual "Roan Romp" weekend with hikes on Roan Mountain and the meeting in
Crossnore, NC. I participated on the Overmountain Victory Trail hike on
Saturday and the walk through the Rhododendron Gardens at the top of the
mountain on Sunday.
The Hike Saturday (June 13)  started in North Carolina (@ Roaring Creek) and
quickly came in to Tennessee crossing the Appalachian Trail and followed the
Overmountain Victory Trail to Hampton Creek Cove (Carter County - near Roan
Mountain).

Birds seen or heard were:

Rock Pigeon (drive to Roaring Creek)

Barred Owl (calling during the day on the Tennessee Side)

Northern Flicker

Red-eyed Vireo

Tree Swallow
Tufted Titmouse

Appalachian Trail from Carver's Gap to Engine Gap) - Flame Azalea almost at
peak bloom. Probably will be Tues/Wed/Thurs this week).

Barn Swallow (Round Bald - NC)
Red-breasted Nuthatch (Roan High Bluff - NC, Carver's Gap - TN)
Golden-crowned Kinglet (Rhodendron Gardens - NC, Carver's Gap - TN)
Veery (Rhodendron Gardens - NC)
Hermit Thrush (Round Bald - TN) singing - in the Spruce/Fir along App.
Trail.
