A male Summer Tanager came to bathe this afternoon. He perched in mountain laurel above the running water and appeared to anticipate taking his bath. His whole body shook with enthusiam, especially the drooping wings and tail. After rehearsing the movements for some time, he flew down to the water and went through the real experience of bathing. I thought it was humorous, but maybe the bird was trying to shake out loose feathers or dirt before entering the water. One of the simple pleasures in life. Tommie Rogers
