We had a good day yesterday just sitting in a 17 foot circle. Our circle is located in our yard surrounded on three sides by woods along a ridge overlooking the Holston River. I am surprised every year by what we see. It is hard to image how many birds we miss every day because we are otherwise occupied. Our species total was 56. We had 5 species of hawks, 3 species of owl, only 3 species of woodpeckers, 8 species of warblers, two species of vireos, no blackbirds and only two species of sparrows!
