Bells Bend Old Hickory Blvd Davidson Co., TN 2013 Aug. 8 7:10-7:55am Extensive overnight rains made me visit Bells Bend this Thursday morning to see if there were any arriving shorebirds. When I approached the fields on the right side of the road, it was obvious that the rains had caused substantial pooling of water in the extensive sod farm fields not far from the dead end of Old Hickory Blvd at the Cumberland River. In addition to 23 Canada Geese there were 7 species of shorebirds. Killdeer 9 Solitary Sandpiper 4 Greater Yellowlegs 3 Lesser Yellowlegs 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper 5 Least Sandpiper 3 Pectoral Sandpiper 4 Also seen on the high tension poles and wires were at least 4000 Purple Martins.
