Not much to report from a couple of recent partial days of birding here in west TN 5/11/2010 McKenzie area (Henry Co) Birded just a few hours in the morning, both for migrants and to see how bad the flooding had damaged my area. Flood damage was severe, with several bridges gone. A few migrants around, including several TN Warblers, and a Cape May among a few others such as Northern Waterthrush and a Philadelphia Vireo. Didn't try any of my Lark Sparrow locations 5/12/2010 Reelfoot area (Obion & Lake Co) I spent a couple of hours on Walnut Log (Obion Co), which was pretty quiet. Highlight was 4 singing Canada Warblers, probably my high count for west TN. Magnolia was the most common migrant, with a few Chestnut-sided and Northern Waterthrushes as well. Heard Swainson's and Gray-cheeked Thrushes. Mississippi Kites were numerous as well, as expected. Just north of Walnut Log had an Olive-sided Flycatcher, which had left by the time I got turned around and came back to it. Shorebirds were few and far between, and the first two locations I had some a Peregrine cleaned them out before I even got out of the car! Finally did get a nice group of White-rumped, Semi and Least Sands at Black Bayou, which let me walk right up on them for some decent photos. Also several Black-necked Stilts around, and a few Pectorals, Spotted, and both Yellowlegs. While walking back to the pools at Black Bayou, I flushed my FOY Sora. Only other shorebird of note was a single Black-bellied Plove west of Ridgely. The only tern was a Forster's on Reelfoot Lake. A few Bobolinks were twinkling, but just not much going on passerine wise, other than swallows. Had all of TN's regular swallows at Phillipy.
