Beaman Park Davidson County Friday, December 31, 2010 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM Partly cloudy, windy, temps in mid-50's F Thank you to Tony Lance and Ed Schneider for noting the presence of Red-Breasted Nuthatches at Beaman Park. Immediately upon getting out of my car yesterday morning, I saw four of them feeding in the pine trees at the lower parking lot off of Little Marrowbone Rd. This was a life bird for me, and I got some great looks! The windy conditions made for tough birding (at least for my novice skills). There wasn't much activity along the creek, but at the Nature Center feeder I saw American Goldfinch (6), Carolina Chickadee (4), Tufted Titmouse (5), and a single female Purple Finch. Heading up the hillside trail to the upper parking lot, I saw Yellow-Rumped Warbler (3), Golden-Crowned Kinglet (2), Downy Woodpecker (2), Red-Bellied Woodpecker (1), and got some good looks at two different Brown Creepers.
