Late Friday afternoon from the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park, I saw one whooping crane on Hiwassee Island in Meigs/Rhea County. Four adult bald eagles were sighted, and at least 3 immature bald eagles were also seen. If the 8 - 10 immature bald eagles that I saw yesterday are still in the area, there are at least 12 - 14 bald eagles in the vicinity of Hiwassee Island. There are still large numbers of sandhill cranes present, as well as numerous ducks and Canada geese.
