Hi Birders,

Here in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville, Davidson County, a few
blocks east of the old Cleece's Ferry ramp to the Cumberland River, lots of
baby birds are coming to Dee's "Smorgabird" to feed. House finches and house
sparrows are in abundance and driving their parents berserk in their frenzy
to be fed. Mama & Papa Chickadee, who discovered peanut butter earlier this
year, introduced their brood to that nice, soft treat, so their babies have
been FEEDING THEMSELVES "from the git-go." Between feedings, they "image" at
the panes of the French doors and cling to the frames of the panes.

The Carolina wrens, after all, did NOT abandon the nest in the gourd in the
carport as I reported. SHE is on the nest, apparently on eggs, and HE is
delivering some nice, juicy bugs to her. I'm hoping for babies any time now.
The house wren is still singing, but must have built the nest elsewhere
instead of last year's gourd location.

At 3:35 PM today, a catbird appeared on the deck rail where it "bellied up"
to an orange half and began to feast, but not for long! A mockingbird, which
also eats orange fruit and grape jelly, flew over in an "attack flash of its
wing patches" which sent the catbird off in a split second. Is that
intolerance between mimic thrush species? Probably, it just means that the
bossy
mockingbird was just being a mockingbird protecting its food source. My only
other catbird visited on October 24, 2004.

Happy birdwatching to all,

Dee Thompson
