Regarding the shyness of Pilieated woodpeckers....

At a previous residence in the center of Sewanee, and when blocks of suet
were still available in the supermarkets, (days which are long gone around
here), I had a pair of Pileateds regularly feeding on a four post not 6 ft.
from my busy (4 children!) living room window.

True, if anyone went right up to the window, they would spook temporarily,
but they always came back.

Birds are weird and, as Ol' Coot says, they teach us something new every day.
