Stephen,
Bats like open spaces to fly out into from their houses, and they like lots
of warmth, so if the tree is more or less out in the open it should do fine.
The main bird conflicts would come from birds of prey which like bats as
well as other furry critters. Also, the stump should not be easily
climbable by cats or raccoons or other such predators.
Good luck and have patience-sometimes it takes many years before bats will
move in.

I'm thinking of adding a large bat house to my yard near the top of a
massive dead red oak stump about 18 feet tall. Are there any known conflicts
between birds and bats or other things to consider?
