Walking along the road near the house just a few minutes ago (about 11 a.m. 2/23/2015) I heard something that suggested an American Tree Sparrow call. I passed it off as wishful thinking, but when a Spizella flew up from the roadside I noticed it seemed largish and with that faint suggestion of a palish outer tail feathers that I often see on Tree Sparrows. Sure enough, when I got my binoculars on it, it was a gorgeous Tree Sparrow at close range in full sun. I just checked my eBird review queue and I don't see any other recent middle TN reports (there was one on the GBBC last week), but I can still hope there might be another mini-irruption this year similar to what happened last year? This bird was in almost the exact spot where I found one last year.
