This Friday morning I stopped by the marsh to see if the
bittern was still around and did not find it. On my way
home I made a second stop. I briefly scanned the water's
edge and found nothing and was making a second scan when
the AMERICAN BITTERN, gliding low over the reeds, flew into
my binocular field of view and perhaps 10 seconds later,
landed deep in the marsh but toward the front part as seen
from the road. Have no idea from where it launched itself,
but my timing could not have been better.
