American Bittern

The attached photo was taken by Steve Buckner around 4:00 PM today, 4 April
2016 in Lascassas, Rutherford Co., TN. The bird was standing in the middle
of the road where Browns Mill Road makes a sharp left, and Rob Taylor Road
continues on straight ahead. There are several large culverts running
underneath the road here and there is a lot of runoff.
Steve never got out of his truck, but pulled just a few feet away from it
and snapped this photo. The bird never moved. I suppose it thought it was
camouflaged off in the reeds somewhere. He said he had to drive around it
to get home.
