I was going stir crazy this afternoon, it looked beautiful outside and the roads looked clear so I drove to the Alcoa Duck Pond in Blount County to see if I could find the Long-tailed Duck reported by Tom Howe. I had more trouble finding the pond than the duck because when I eventually pulled into the parking lot there she was just sitting around on the water a few feet from shore. I snapped a couple of photos from the car. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/foxysparrow/12508386105/"; title="Long-Tailed Duck at Alcoa by foxysparrow, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7390/12508386105_0a7e3c8a98.jpg"; width="500" height="375" alt="Long-Tailed Duck at Alcoa"></a> On my way home I stopped by the boat launch at Concord Park in west Knox County and found lots of ring-billed gulls and out beyond the gulls four Red-breasted Mergansers, three of them adult males.
