In the spring I reported how the darn English Sparrows had taken over my Bluebird nest box. I quickly found them and tore their nest out. After some advise I received here I placed a piece of 2 by 4 on the inside bottom of the box to make it shallower. That seemed to do the trick as the Bluebirds returned and proceeded to have 3 broods. I had been keeping tabs on the latest brood of 4 and they were almost ready to leave the nest. Yesterday I noticed the nest material sticking out of the entrance and knew what was up. The nest was cleaned out. I have seen it happen before but not here at this location. I have heard that squirrels will raid the nest and of course snakes but no way of telling for sure. I did find a few feathers on the ground. I have seen nest boxes with predator guards on the entrance, making it an 1 1/2 think or so. Do these help?
