Six members and friends of the Knoxville TOS attended a field trip to Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in eastern Knox Co. on Saturday. Wayne Schacher led the trip. The weather was beautiful and the conversation was lively. They walked about 2.5 miles and saw a lot of the common species (listed below), but the highlight was a lengthy display by 2 adult bald eagles perched in a dead snag on a hillside across the French Broad River. The species list (25 species) includes: Canada goose, great blue heron, turkey vulture, 2 adult Bald Eagles, American kestrel, killdeer, mourning dove, red-bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker, pileated woodpecker, northern flicker, eastern phoebe, bluejay, American crow, Carolina chickadee, Carolina wren, eastern bluebird, gray catbird, northern mockingbird, brown thrasher, European starling, Eastern towhee, song sparrow, white-throated sparrow, northern cardinal.
