Seventeen birders joined Tony Lance on a cold but sunny morning for a tour
through the rolling farmland of Robertson County. Our first stops were along
State Line road where the numerous Horned Larks were joined by one of our main
targets, Lapland Longspur. We got to watch a large mixed flock feeding in a
plowed field next to the road. Our next stop was River Rd, along the Red
River, where we encountered a huge flock of American Pipits in a winter wheat
field, and slightly farther down the road a lone Brewer's Blackbird flushed
from the side of the road to a nearby tree allowing for excellent scope views.
We eventually worked our way to the western part of the county where we
encountered a total of 3 Loggerhead Shrikes, another main target of the trip.
Lots of Kestrels, meadowlarks, Northern Harriers, and hawks rounded out the
show.
Special thanks to Tony for expertly guiding us around the county!
