iForum Survey Shows Demand for Citrix Access Infrastructure Solutions Customers Surveyed by Edge Research Indicates Majority of Citrix Customers Expect Global IT Recovery by End of 2004 ORLANDO, Fla. ? 10/15/2003 ? Today at Citrix iForum? 2003 ( http://www.citrixiforum.com ), Citrix Systems (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, and market research company Edge Research (http://www.edgeresearch.com) announced key findings of a customer survey exploring technology issues and IT spending trends among more than 2,500 attendees of Citrix?s annual business and technology forum this week in Orlando, Florida. Major survey findings indicated demand for Citrix access infrastructure solutions to address core business challenges, including providing secure, easy and instant access to applications and information from anywhere, anytime, using any device, over any connection, and driving more predictable and lower enterprise computing costs. In particular, the results revealed urgent market need for password management and single sign-on (SSO) solutions, and indicated that the majority of Citrix customers are deploying or plan to deploy Web applications with Citrix® MetaFrame® Presentation Server. Furthermore, the survey reflected growing optimism in the IT sector ? the majority of respondents expect a global recovery of IT spending by the end of 2004. ?The results of the survey indicate the strategic value of a single, integrated and consistent access infrastructure for addressing enterprise business challenges such as managing heterogeneous computing environments and delivering on-demand information access regardless of location, device or underlying heterogeneity,? said Jon Kulok, Managing Director of Edge Research. ?The survey results also revealed strong and immediate demand for conferencing and single-sign on technologies to enhance worker productivity and respond to growing network security concerns.? SURVEY RESULTS Strategic Business Initiatives ? More than 96 percent of respondents indicated that one of their company?s strategic business initiatives is to establish an access infrastructure that enables secure, easy, instant access to applications and information while reducing the overall costs of IT. This finding further supports the importance of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite in meeting the access requirements of the company?s global customer base of more than 120,000 organizations. Demand for single sign-on (SSO) solutions ? The survey found that, while only 16 percent of respondents currently use single sign-on software within their organizations to improve employees? computing experiences and address network security issues, 59 percent plan to use SSO software in the near future ? with 80 percent of that group planning to implement an SSO solution within the next two years. These results reveal the significant market opportunity for the recently launched Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager, the most efficient SSO and password security solution for accessing password-protected Windows®, Web, proprietary and host-based applications running in the MetaFrame Access Suite environment or on a variety of desktop clients. This enables businesses to simplify secure access to the on-demand enterprise, helping improve worker productivity, increase network security and reduce help desk costs. Of those respondents currently using SSO solutions, 85 percent indicated that SSO software improved the ability of IT help desks to handle employee password problems and 81 percent indicated that SSO software improved employees? overall computing experiences. Demand for the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite ? More than 60 percent of survey respondents indicated that the technology initiative with the greatest impact on end-user productivity is providing on-demand access to enterprise information resources for local and remote users. This demonstrates robust opportunity for Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server, the world?s most widely deployed presentation server for centrally managing heterogeneous applications and delivering their functionality as a service to workers, wherever they may be. Moreover, while survey results showed that less than half of respondents are currently using an application conferencing solution, the majority plan to implement one in the near future, and 80 percent of that group expects to implement application conferencing within the next two years. The results indicate customer demand for Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager, launched in the second quarter of this year. Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager is the most productive way for teams, regardless of the locations of individual members, to work concurrently and collaboratively on the same applications and documents. Deployment of Web Applications ? The customer survey results showed that 93 percent of respondents are deploying or plan to deploy Web applications within their organizations, and of those customers, more than 69 percent are using Citrix access infrastructure to do so. Centralized network administration, rapid application deployment, increased security and cost savings were highlighted as the most important benefits customers have gained from using the MetaFrame Access Suite to deploy Web applications. Other Major Findings Consumer Reaction to Economy ? Almost 80 percent of Citrix customers stated they anticipate the global IT market to increase by an average of 12 percent within the next 15 months, with the greatest number of respondents predicting market recovery by the end of the second quarter of 2004. Wireless Technology ? The majority of respondents said they are currently using or plan to use wireless technology to access corporate applications. Of that group, more than 70 percent said they use or plan to use MetaFrame Presentation Server as a component of their wireless infrastructure, citing centralized administration and support, remote access and cost savings among the leading benefits. Windows Server 2003 Momentum ? Survey results show that more than 70 percent of respondents use or plan to use Windows Server 2003 by the end of 2004. Attendees gathered in Orlando this week to learn more about the Citrix?s business strategy and technology direction for providing access infrastructure for the on-demand enterprise.
