[THIN] update.dat file

Hi all,
I am looking for the file name where the automatic client updater cheks the
version ...
I tought it was update.dat or .ini but i am unable to locate it ...
So i am afraid i have wrong info.
Or is this only on XPe ?
Whe use 1.8 on 2k
any advice is verry welcome.
