I don't believe there is a whitepaper on 1.8. It was not as complicated as XP due to there being no data store connection. The biggest things were new SID generation, Removing the licenses Prior to imaging etc. The other stuff is all standard ghosting, plenty of the board members do it and there is LOTS of stuff in the archives about it. Run a search and you should be golden.
