A BES somewhere has to be used to talk to the Blackberry. That's what
sends info out via SRP numbers and auth numbers to the devices. If you
don't run your own BES, you are relying on someone elses BES. Just
depends on who is providing your Blackberry.

You don't *have* to use the Enterprise server, but I believe that they
need to set it up using the client option. But I also believe that that
requires the client software to be running. In your case, probably
Outlook. We use Enterprise server here, so the messages come to the
Exchange server then to the Blackberry server on to our Blackberries.

We have a new customer that has some blackberry's. they are wanting to
use them through our system, but I have never worked with them before.
We use normal Exchange 2000 for email, not enterprise. Is this going to
be a problem?

This is true unless you have cingular service in your area. Our
blackberrys sync with outlook through a separate server. We no longer
sync them through citrix. This has saved us many hours of heartache.

The blackberry requires you to sync to your outlook client via a com
port or usb port, so as long as all that works nicely in your Citrix
environment, it should work great.

If you can't get com/usb working to sync properly, then all you have is
a blackberry that can get e-mail, wirelessly reconcile e-mail, and
wirelessly sync the calendar with an enterprise Exchange system. You
need the physical syncing to do things like task/notes/contacts.

For remote access meaning applications - no.

For email/outlook, yes.
