I just jump in and reconfig the first for the port that my remote control
software uses to point to whatever machine I want to get to.  The dual hop
gets laggy.

I do this too, running VNC.  I set a firewall rule to my static IP at home
to
my personal PC at work.  I then use VNC to get to my PC, then run another
instance of the Viewer on that PC to get to the problem PC (like a dual
jump).
