Go with SQL, it might be a little over-kill but is worth it in performance
and recoverability.

Subject: [THIN] Which datastore to choose?

Hello!

We are going to migrate our little server farm from Metaframe 1.8 to XP
soon and thus we have to choose a data store for our forthcoming XP
environment. As our farm is quite small (currently 6 servers and it won't
expand much in the future), our first thought is about using an Access
database.

At the moment, I have only some theoretical knowledge about how it works
but no practical experience, so I'd like to ask the following questions:

1. How reliable is the Access solution for a small environment like ours?
Does it work or should we prefer a SQL server solution even for our small
farm? Does backup/restore of this database work reliably?

2. If I have understood it correctly, the first MF XP server being set up
will host the data store. Is it possible to move this data store to another
server? What if this server fails for a longer period (e.g. motherboard
failure)? Would it be possible to move this database to another server
(provided a backup exists, of course)?

3. What about the idea to put the Access database on a separate MF XP
server which doesn't host applications? In this case our "real" application
servers could be identical. (This extra server could be license server too)

Thank you!
